The refund veins

You returned it. The refund never arrived.

The tracking says delivered. Amazon's emails say a refund was coming. Your bank says otherwise. Before this becomes a fight, rule out the three places refunds hide — and if none of them explains it, you are in a failure mode Amazon has admitted, in court, in its own words.

First: the three places refunds hide

  1. Your Amazon balance. If any part of the order was paid with a gift card or balance, that part of the refund returns to your balance — not your bank. Check your balance activity before concluding anything.
  2. Your card's clock, not Amazon's. Amazon "issuing" a refund and your bank posting it are different events; card postings commonly take several business days after issue. A refund issued Friday can look "missing" until the following week.
  3. The wrong expectation. A partial amount can be a deduction (return shipping, condition) wearing a disguise — see partial refunds.

None of those? Then the refund genuinely failed to complete — and that is a documented Amazon failure mode, verbatim from its settlement statement: refunds "issued without the payment completing."

The proof that decides it

The doors, in order

  1. Reply to Amazon's decision/refund email with the timeline attached. Chat can see the refund "issued"; the Account Specialist route can fix the completion.
  2. The account appeal form if the reply stalls.
  3. Executive Customer Relations (ecr-replies@amazon.com) — one factual page: order, return, tracking delivery date, refund email date, amount still missing.
  4. BBB complaint — executive-relations staff answer these.
  5. Chargeback, last, with the warning attached — see the chargeback warning.

And check the settlement window

Returns from September 5, 2017 through February 12, 2026 may be inside the return-refund settlement — unpaid refunds are its Subclass A core, paid automatically where Amazon's records show the failure. Subclass B claims close December 1, 2026. Newer returns aren't covered; the direct fight above is theirs. The settlement hub →

Not sure which fight you're in? The free checker sorts it in four picks — what happened, the proof you hold, one date — and gives you your door, your steps, your deadlines, and an honest grade of your case. Run the checker →
